Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation was conducted on land at High Moor Farm, Talbot Village, Poole, Dorset (centred at NGR SY 0730 9330). A preliminary desk-based assessment identified several Bronze Age barrows near the site. The eastern boundary of the farm was shown to be of some antiquity. The evaluation itself consisted of 4 small trial trenches across the eastern boundary, a magnetic susceptibility survey of the majority of the farm, and a magnetometer survey of approximately 25% of the farm. Areas of interest identified by the geophysical surveys were investigated by seven machine-dug trenches. A total of seven possible ditches were located, all undated. A scan of some of the spoil, undertaken by students from Bournemouth University, revealed a quantity of worked flint, including a leaf-shaped arrowhead, dated to the Neolithic. The geology is River Terrace deposits and Branksome Sand. The maximum height is 50.87m above OD in the North.
