Abstract/Summary

‘An archaeological watching was carried out by Terrain Archaeology in August 2010, during groundworks associated with structural underpinning and construction of a new single storey extension to the rear of Number 2 Victoria Terrace, Fordington, Dorchester, Dorset (OS NGR SY 69749058). Excavation of two hand-dug underpinning pits beneath the rear wall of the house and a single external foundation trench spanning the rear yard revealed three ditches and an ambiguously defined feature or layer deposit, all sealed beneath an agricultural soil. Whilst not intrinsically dated, the results of previous fieldwork in the vicinity suggest the archaeological remains are unlikely to pre-date the medieval period.’
