Author/Originator | Ladle, L |
Date/Year | 1995 |
Abstract/Summary
Observations and recording after topsoil stripping for construction of a footpath along the western side of the car park. A layer of humic black topsoil between 0.3m and 0.8m thick was recorded, with three modern features thought to relate to a 19th-century range of cottages known as Davis Row demolished in the 1930s. Davis Row was replaced by a prefabricated structure used as a Civil Defence Centre and then as a Social Services Centre, and this was demolished in the late 1980s. Two unstratified fragments of medieval pottery were recovered.
