Abstract/Summary
'Context One Archaeological Services Ltd (COAS) carried out an Archaeological Heritage Statement relating to a proposed development on Land at Barges Close , Litton Cheney, Dorset. The work was commissioned by Mr Paul Hoffman of C G Fry & Son Ltd.
This investigation was requested by Mr Steve Wallis in order to inform at outline planning application for the erection of two detached dwellings each with a garage to be asccessed from Barges Close. Medieval contour strip lynchets are present on the hillsides to the north of the Site, and a number of archaelogical finds have also been recorded in the vicinity of the site.
The proposed development would require the excavation of footings as well as the installation of services and any associated landscaping for gardens and driveways. This will almost certainly impact on any archaeological remains reserved below the present ground level. Further archaeological investigatiuon would need to be carried out prior to submission of the reserved matters application. This would take the form of a field evaluation in order to investigae the presence and extent of potential archaeological remains, using geophysical survey and targeted evaluation trenches.'
