Title | Summary Statement on the Results of an Archaeological Watching Brief at The Old School House, Moreton, Dorset |
Author/Originator | Dinwiddy, M |
Date/Year | 2001 |
Abstract/Summary
Ground clearance in advance of construction of a car park in the garden of the Old School House exposed pits and other features. These were reported to the Dorset County Council Historic Environment team and arrangements made for Wessex Archaeology to record the features; the development had been granted planning permission without an archaeological condition. Archaeologists recorded pits, gullies and other linear features, some curvilinear in plan, interpreted as a settlement of Iron Age date. The settlement extended beyond the limits of the approximately 15m by 6m area stripped for the car park.
