Abstract/Summary

'An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during construction of the Sturminster Marshall to Blandford St Mary water main (7.5km) by Wessex Water between February and April by the discovery of a Middle Bronze Age (c. 1500 BC) cremation pit and the recovery of a collection of later Neolithic/Bronze Age worked flint. Ditches recorded close to Spetisbury Rings are probably associated with the Iron Age hillfort. The other features recorded can mostly be assigned to a medieval/post-medieval date, including the discovery of a former building and associated features close to the site of a Benedictine priory cell.'
