Title | Coopers Wholesale, Grove Trading Estate, Dorchester: Preliminary Archaeological Desk-based Assessment |
Author/Originator | Farwell, D E |
Date/Year | 1997 |
Wessex Archaeology | T3468 |
Abstract/Summary
The application area represents a substantial section of the south-eastern quarter of the Scheduled Monument of Poundbury Camp. It is, therefore, within an area of previously-demonstrated high archaeological potential of chronological range from the Neolithic to the post-Roman periods. However, one third of the area in question has been substantially reduced in level by recent building work; much of the remainder has been altered to a lesser extent. Approximately on eighth of the area remains untouched.
It is suggested that the development be approved subject to the implementation of a mixed staged provision of archaeological monitoring leading, where required, to limited excavation.
