Title Report on Geophysical Surveys at Dorchester, Dorset: Fields North of Maiden Castle Road and Rugby Field, Weymouth Road
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1988
Wessex Archaeology

Abstract/Summary

Report on two surveys carried out in Feb 1998 for Wessex Archaeology as part of their archaeological assessment of the former Rugby club site off Weymouth Road and the new site off Coburg Road, Dorchester. The geophysical survey of the site to the north of Maiden Castle Road (New Rugby Ground, Coburg Road) has revealed a large number of magnetic anomalies, though these are difficult to interpret. Appears to show a ring ditch and other curvilinear features plus ditches of field system and pits. Also phosphate and susceptibility survey. The interpretation of the geophysical survey results for the rugby field, Weymouth Avenue is hampered by the large amount of disturbance.
