Abstract/Summary

Archaeological observations were carried out by Wessex Archaeology in November and December 1994, during excavation in advance of the second phase of construction at Bearwood Primary School, Wheelers Lane, Poole, Dorset (NGR SZ 0455 9675). Seven linear features were recorded, at least six of which are parts of a field system or systems recorded during earlier work at the site. Thought initially to be of one period, it now seems probable that more than one field system is represented, two dating from the Iron Age/Romano-British and medieval periods and a possible third from the later Bronze Age. Two pits, one of later Bronze Age and one of Romano-British date, were also excavated and these may indicate the existence of settlements in the vicinity.
