Abstract/Summary

Results of trial trenches dug in advance of house construction. Three machine-excavated trenches were dug in gardens to the rear of The Volunteer Inn, South Street, Bridport in 2001. The earliest activity revealed were two associated ditches on a different alignment to the medieval street layout. The remainder of features were of 18th/19th century date and included four large rubbish pits, two narrow drainage channels, and a stone culvert or soakaway.
