Summary
A single Durotrigian grave was revealed during a watching brief by Wessex Archaeology on a pipeline running through the industrial estates to the east of Poundbury Camp in 1986. The chalk-cut grave was aligned NW-SE and contained a crouched adult inhumation aged 30-35 years. Grave goods comprised a sheep leg over the right foot and a black burnished dish of late 1st or early 2nd century AD date placed near the left foot. This burial was part of the Late Iron Age/ Early Roman cemetery at Poundbury.

Full Description
A single Durotrigian grave was revealed during a watching brief by Wessex Archaeology on a pipeline running through the industrial estates to the east of Poundbury Camp in 1986 (1) (2) (3) (4). The chalk-cut grave was aligned NW-SE and contained a crouched adult inhumation aged 30-35 years. The hands had been placed under the head which faced southwest. Grave goods comprised a sheep leg over the right foot and a black burnished dish of late 1st or early 2nd century AD date placed near the left foot.
This burial was part of the Late Iron Age/ Early Roman cemetery at Poundbury (5).
