Monument record MDO28599 - Second World War anti-tank blocks, Durley Chine, Bournemouth

Second World War pyramidial anti-tank blocks are visible on aerial photographs of 1945 at Durley Chine. A line of anti-tank blocks, measuring approximately 20 m in length, extends south west to north east across the junction of a road at the end of the chine and the seafront.

A line of anti-tank blocks, measuring approximately 20 m in length, extends south west to north east across the junction of a road at the end of the chine and the seafront. (1) Two further lines of anti-tank blocks are positioned further up the chine, approximately 80 m to the north (see MDO28600). Anti-tank blocks, made of reinforced concrete, were one of the coastal crust defence measures used to protect vulnerable areas during the Second World War. The site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
