Full Description
Second World War pyramidial anti-tank blocks are visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s at Durley Chine. Two parallel lines of anti-tank blocks, measuring up to approximately 45 m in length, curve from south west to north east across a road down the centre of the chine. (1-2) A further line of anti-tank blocks is positioned further down the chine, approximately 80 m to the south (see MDO28599). Anti-tank blocks, made of reinforced concrete, were one of the coastal crust defence measures used to protect vulnerable areas during the Second World War. The site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (3) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
