Monument record MDO46166 - Ditch and pit, Hill Close House, Studland
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A ditch and an isolated pit dating to the earlier Romano-British period were recorded during archaeological observations and recording during digging of foundations for an extension in 2016. Both features were shallow and filled with sandy deposits from which very few artefacts were recovered, but including a few sherds of Romano-British pottery. The features are considered to be contemporary with a nearby Romano-British farmstead, though the paucity of finds suggests this was an outlying area away from the focus ofsettlement.
