Monument record MWX3451 - Post-medieval pits and garden features, The Rectory, South Street, Bridport:

Please read our .

Summary

A number of post-medieval and modern pits and other features were found during an evaluation of the rear garden of the Rectory, South Street by Bournemouth University in 1996. Three pits containing post-medieval material were found in Trenches I, II, and III. The pits in Trenches I and II contained a layer of limestone and brick rubble and some roof tile at the base and were interpreted as soakaways. Two features found in Trenches I and II are probably relatively modern gardening features. In Trench IV, a layer of limestone and brick crazy-paving, bonded with cement was found about 0.5m below the surface. This is likely to be the remains of a relatively recent garden path.
