Abstract/Summary
An interim report on the excavations at Greyhound Yard, Dorchester undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in 1984. It contains some documentary evidence for the post-medieval use of the site and outlines the fieldwork methodology. The bulk of the article is taken up with a summary interpretation of the major archaeological elements found on the site, including the arc or Neolithic posts, the evidence for the setting out of the Roman town and the development of the insula within which the excavation was located with its range of timber and later stone buildings and central yards, and the medieval developments including a dovecote and a large number of pits.
