SDO9463 - Dorchester Ring Main 1992: Post-Excavation Research Design

Contains a summary of all archaeologically significant sites discovered and proposals for post-excavation work and publication. Assessment of archaeological data recovered during work on a new ring-main from the west of Dorchester at Bradford Peverell, northwards towards the river Frome, and terminating at Eagle Lodge on the east side of the town, and southwards from Bradford Peverell across Fordington Down and terminating at Maiden Castle Road. A programme of archaeological observations and recording was commissioned by Wessex Water; the contractors were R E Docwra and Westwick. Each plot within the easement was walked before removal of topsoil to record any earthworks, and again after topsoil removal when surface finds were collected and the presence of any subsoil features noted. Where substantial archaeological deposits were seen, more detailed recording and excavation was carried out. Finally, the pipe-trenching was monitored and any exposed features recorded.
