Full Description

101 features dated by pottery to the Iron Age including pits (and charcoal pits), scoops and postholes. Ditches and gullies forming part of a field system (see WX3565) were also excavated. The majority of pits contained large quantities of hearthstone with lesser amounts of Purbeck limestone, mudstone and shale. A spindle whorl and part of a ceramic crucible were found in one pit, copper slag was found in two. 17 features were dated to the Roman period although the pottery sherds were few in number and generally small and abraded (1)
